Each of the sixteen FFA District Winners will present a 4-6-minute extemporaneous speech on an agriculture topic that they have chosen through a drawing process from six categories. The member will also answer 5 minutes of questions from the judges that will score the supportive details/facts and ability to be detail oriented. The speech will be evaluated on the oral communication skills of using examples, speaking without hesitation, tone, and connecting and articulating the facts and issues. Students will be scored on their non-verbal communication through eye contact, use of gestures free from mannerisms and poise displayed. A separate judge will time the speech and questions and provide deductions for speeches over or under the required time. Students will be placed into a speaking order by a random draw. Each judge will submit their scores online and be used to calculate the winner. The FFA Creed is a five-paragraph statement of the beliefs of members about the belief of the future of agriculture, the member will defend their beliefs by answering three questions from the judges. The presentation of the creed will be scored on the members verbal communication using a pleasing pace, tone, and volume. Students will be scored on their non-verbal communication through eye contact, use of gestures free from mannerisms and poise displayed. Questions will be evaluated on the members appropriate response to questions, details that support the response and knowledge of agriculture. A separate accuracy judge will provide scores for additions, subtractions of words and punctuation. Each judge will submit their scores online and be used to calculate the winner. The State Star Farmer is awarded to the FFA member that demonstrates the top production agriculture supervised agricultural experience in Colorado. The member must demonstrate outstanding achievement, active FFA participation and an exemplary scholastic record. The application has already been scored by a panel of judges. The students will interview in front of a separate panel of judges on their knowledge of their SAE. The application score and interview score will be combined to determine the State Winner.
The State Star in Agribusiness is awarded to the FFA member with the top nonproduction agribusiness supervised agricultural experience in Colorado. The member must demonstrate outstanding achievement, active FFA participation and an exemplary scholastic record. The application has already been scored by a panel of judges. The State Star in Agricultural Placement is awarded to the FFA member with the top agricultural placement supervised agricultural experience in Colorado. To participate in State AgriScience Fair students may conduct research in one of six different areas: Animal Systems, Environmental Services/Natural Resource Systems, Food Products and Processing Systems, Plant Systems, Power Structural and Technical Systems, and Social Science. Each of the divisions are broken by age and if they are an individual or team presentation. Each contestant/team will submit a Written Report that will be scored in advance of the interview. During the interview, the judges will score: Knowledge Gained, Scientific Research, Collaboration, Thoroughness, results, and Visual Display. The judges will use an electronic rubric to score the Cover Letter, Resume, and Job Application. Each participant or team of participants will submit applications and written reports that will be scored. Scoring will be on the following: Abstract, Introduction, Literature Review, Methods, Results, Conclusions, References, Skill Development and APA Style. You will review and score the application and written report on an e-rubric during the scoring week, on your own time, at your leisure. This score will be added to the interview score to determine the winners. Application judges and interview judges may be different people.
