The right to vote is the fundamental right of the democratic society. Democracy allows citizens to select who have to govern them. Voting is not only a right, but a responsibility, as it ensures that the voices of all citizens are heard.
The right to vote is guaranteed in Constitution under Article 326. This article states that "Every person who is a citizen of India and who is not less than 18 years of age on the particular date as may be fixed, shall be entitled to be registered as a voter at any election."
In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government of India
has decided to celebrate
January 25 every year as "
National Voters' Day". It has been started from
25 January 2011 to mark the
foundation day of Election Commission of India.
