The Main Street Waterloo Design Council works to enhance the physical appearance of the downtown by rehabilitating historic buildings, encouraging supportive new construction, developing sensitive design management systems and long-term planning. As part of the Four Point Approach to Main Street revitalization, the Design Council:
- Oversees all possible downtown design activity: maintenance, rehab, new construction, signage and public improvements.
- Works with local design and construction professional to assure they understand proper treatment of old buildings.
- Partners with city government to oversee local ordinances affecting downtown building activity.
- Works with state and local preservation office.
- Maintains downtown building inventory, in cooperation with the Economic Vitality Council
The Design Council meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon at the Main Street Waterloo office. As a Design Council member, you are expected to attend 75% of the meetings each year to maintain voting privileges.
