Survey on Hong Kong's exotic pet and wildlife trades - for Veterinary Professionals
We estimate that this anonymous survey will take around 10-15 mins to complete. The objectives are to help gauge:
1. the species of exotic pets and wildlife commonly seen at vet clinics across Hong Kong;
2. the extent and nature of sickness and disease in the Live Exotic Animal Pet (LEAP) Trade in Hong Kong, as seen by local vet clinics;
3. the level of knowledge and care of exotics as provided by traders and private pet owners (PPOs);
4. whether regulations governing the LEAP trade in Hong Kong are fit for purpose as regards to the management of animal and public health; and
5. the extent to which orphaned wildlife is being rescued and rehabilitated by untrained members of the public, and becoming exotic pets.
It is hoped that the survey findings will:
• inform constructive policy dialogue to address legislative loopholes, that potentially impact public and animal health;
• provide data to promote awareness of the issues surrounding the exotic pet trade to members of the public, traders and the vet community; and
• provide a basis for HKVA, HKVNA and the public to support policy reform proposals.
Thank you in advance for your invaluable support!
