UUCW Name Change Conversation
Thank you for virtually joining in the conversation about the idea of changing UUCW's name as we prepare to design a new sign to go outside our building.  You are welcome to join any of our on-going "listening sessions" where we share ideas and thoughts about this name change, but you are also welcome to share your ideas using the form below.

What's In Our Name?
Over the course of our history, since our founding in 1841, we have had three names, The Universalist Society of Worcester, The First Universalist Church of Worcester, and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester. These names reflect the ethic and religious orientation of the congregation at various moments; ethics and orientations that have changed over time. Now the Board and and Aaron wonder if we have come to another moment when we might consider if our name reflects what we are and are becoming as a faith community.

Background and Process

Already Proposed Names
Some names have already been proposed as possible new names, including names that would not change our acronym.  These include: “Universalist Unitarian Congregation of Worcester”, “Universalist Unitarian Community of Worcester” and “Universalist Unitarian Church of Worcester”.
How do you feel about the names already proposed?  Are there versions you like or dislike?  Explain below. *
What other suggestions do you have for a new name?  (If you would like to keep the current name, write "keep current name" below.)
What possible effects do you think a name change might have for UUCW? *
What's Next?
Listening sessions to gather feedback from the UUCW community will continue through April, at which point, the board will consider the feedback from those who offered their thoughts and ideas.  If, after receiving feedback from the congregation, the board decides it wishes to proceed with a name change, we would propose it at a full congregational meeting. The default rules are that a majority vote of those attending the congregational meeting would be required to approve the change. The congregation is free to decide by majority vote that it wants different rules for this proposal - for example it could decide to require a two-thirds vote for approval.

If you still would like to attend a Listening Session, please look to updates in the Nugget and on Facebook to see when upcoming sessions will be held.

Thank you for your feedback!
