Becoming Texans, Becoming Americans Event Registration
Join us for a talk by oral historian Betsy Brody as she discusses her oral history project that documents the Vietnamese refugees who arrived in North Texas following the fall of Saigon in April 1975. She will be joined by photographer Byrd Williams IV who collaborated with Brody to create portraits of each of the narrators. Event is free and open to the public.

Schedule of Events:

(Location – McCord Auditorium, 3rd Floor of Dallas Hall at SMU)

 

6:00pm – Reception featuring food and drink from 7Leaves Café and Ngon Vietnamese Kitchen

6:30pm – Talk (including Q&A with oral historian Betsy Brody and photograph Byrd Williams)

7:30pm – Exhibition opens – join us to walk through the photograph exhibition

 

Parking

 

Any SMU student, faculty or staff with a valid permit may park anywhere on campus after 5:00pm. For this event, we recommend the Q lot behind Dallas Hall.

 

For our guests, there are several parking options listed below:

  • Paid on-campus parking options.
    • You can find the visitor parking map here.
    • SMU has metered parking across campus (rate $3.00/hour – meter in effect until 7pm)
    • You can pay to park at Moody and Binkley Parking Garages ($10 flat daily rate)
  • Other parking alternatives
    • There are time-limited parallel parking spaces along Hillcrest near the SMU campus.
    • You can avail free parking at Mockingbird Station and take the SMU Red Express to Campus (440). You can find the map and schedule here.
    • Dallas Hall is a short walk from Snider Plaza.
