2019-2020 Youth Leadership Dawson County Application
Youth Leadership Dawson County is designed to assist participants in developing leadership skills and in expanding their awareness of the social, economic, and political challenges facing the Dawson County area. Dawson Area Development believes that each participant has the potential to become a leader and valuable decision-maker in the future.

Eligibility Requirements
Enrollment as a student in one of the following school districts: Cozad, Elwood, Eustis-Farnam, Gothenburg, Lexington, Overton SEM) or home schooled in one of the same school district’s areas.

Applications must be submitted during the spring of the sophomore year for participation as juniors.

Students selected must commit to full participation in the program.

Participants must have a desire to develop and utilize leadership skills.
Instructions
1) Complete and submit this online form.

2) Print off the Applicant, Parent & Principal's Commitment form (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1eTHp_DZDjo45qp3Nt3EIA5RBjuY1BN3d), obtain a signature from your principal and parent or guardian on said form and mail to Dawson Area Development, 1501 Plum Creek Parkway, Ste 5, Lexington, NE  68850 or scan and email to dawsonareadirector@gmail.com

Both steps must be completed and received by June 14, 2019 5:00 p.m. to be considered for the program.
Selection Process
Members of the Leadership Dawson County Advisory Board and alumni will review applications in confidence.

Applicants being considered for the program will be asked to participate in a brief interview with the selection committee. Each program year, up to 12 individuals will be selected to participate in Youth Leadership Dawson County. Student’s personal information that might identify the candidate is not revealed to the selection committee members.
Graduation Requirements
Attendance is required at all sessions. The sessions will be held during the day until approximately 3:00 p.m. during the months of September - May and should not interfere with after school activities, with the exception of the State Government Day which will run longer due to travel to and from Lincoln. Every effort will be made to avoid conflicts with other school functions. Your teachers and coaches are aware of this program and your absence from school during these sessions will be allowed.  Participation is a privilege, so attendance is your responsibility.

Program Funding
Participation in Youth Leadership Dawson County has no cost to the individual youth participants. Full scholarships of $250.00 will be arranged for every student with area businesses and service clubs. Selected youth are responsible for reporting their progress in the program to their sponsor throughout the year

Two letters of reference are REQUIRED. Please send or deliver sealed letters of reference to Dawson Area Development 1501 Plum Creek Parkway Ste 5 Lexington, NE 68850 or have your references directly email their letter to dawsonareadirector@gmail.com. Subject line should read 2019 LEADERSHIP DAWSON COUNTY STUDENT'S NAME REFERENCE LETTER. References are recommended from someone who knows you well, other than a parent or relative. Your high school principal, counselor, teacher, coach, scout leader, church leader, etc. often make good references.
