"Jewish Law and Modesty: Hair Covering, Body Covering, and Living in a Revealing Society" with Michael Broyde. Please RSVP
Date: October 29, 2019
Time: 12:00PM
Location: Encina Commons, Room 123

In this talk, Michael Broyde will focus on the history of the Jewish law concept of modesty (tziniyut) with all of its deeply gendered context, and argue that the actual picture of the substance of Jewish law is not as glum as one might think, and that the classical sources -- at least until the reactions to the Enlightenment 150 years -- ago were reasonable and source driven.  We will ponder what if anything Jewish concepts have to contribute to the general discourse in our society.

Please note that RSVPs give us a sense of how many seats we need and not a guarantee that you will have a seat so please arrive early. We also appreciate that you do not save seats so that those who arrive early or on time also get a seat. Thank you.
