Golf Tournament Volunteer Sign Up
Hi CM Students!!  I'm Nicole Tuchscherer, and I coordinate all things for CM.  I look forward to getting to know you this year.  We hold many events that raise money for the program the student group.  We always need student volunteers!  Go to our events website to see what CM has planned this year:  https://nau.edu/construction-management/events/

8am – Registration
8:30am – Shotgun Start
1pm – Awards Reception and Luncheon

Golf Tourney Volunteer Details:
  • Attend the Pre Tourney Meeting - one week before the event after the Construction Industry Seminar.
  • Pack the golfer gift bags and help load the CM trailer with all event supplies at the Pre Tourney Meeting.
  • Arrive at the Oak Creek Country Club in Sedona at 6:00am. Yep, it's early.
  • Event ends before 3pm.  Help clean up before you leave.
  • You'll get a NAU CM volunteer shirt.
  • You'll get free lunch at the awards ceremony.
Volunteer Tasks:
  • raffle ticket sales
  • set-up the registration tables and EZ Ups
  • Hosting the luncheon awards ceremony (students have the microphone)
  • Meet & greet the golfers (CM industry professionals)
  • Run the "CMO fundraising hole" during the event
  • Round up golfers that are taking too long
  • Collect Score Cares and Direct Golfers to the Lunch Ballroom when they are finished golfing
Other Notes:
  • You MUST INFORM ME IF A COMPANY ASKS YOU TO GOLF ON THEIR TEAM.    If you hear directly from a company email me promptly Nicole.Tuchscherer@nau.edu to get on their team roster.
  • I use Outlook calendar meeting invites to organize student volunteers.  Plan to become familiar with your Outlook calendar, or have things forwarded to your preferred calendar.  Either way, you'll need to accept/decline my meeting invites so I know who is attending :)
The golf tourney is a great opportunity to network with industry.  The companies hound students with questions!!  Prepare and practice responses and ideas on how to keep the conversation flowing so it doesn't get awkward.  Asking THEM questions about their company always works.

They will ask students:
  • Have you signed on with anyone? 
  • Are you looking for an internship?
  • Where have you interned in the past?
  • What are your plans after graduation?
  • What year are you in the program?
You can ask them:
  • What are your most exciting projects right now?
  • Do you have many NAU CM Alumni at your company?
  • Will you be on campus to recruit or do a Construction Industry Seminar this year?
  • Do you plan to be at NAU for Homecoming?  We are holding a new event for industry this year on Nov 5th.

A bit of information about the NAU Extra-Curricular Institutional Excuse:

A Student Institutional Excuse may be granted to a student who participates as a representative of the University in academic (including research), extra- or co-curricular, or athletic activities, or for military service. Students may be excused for institutional purposes from otherwise required academic activity only when a valid Student Institutional Excuse is approved by the appropriate administrative unit or official.

For the Golf Tourney I will request an Extra-Curricular Excuse:  Approved by the Dean of Students , the extra-curricular Student Institutional Excuse may be issued to students who participate in sanctioned extracurricular or co-curricular events sponsored by student clubs and organizations.  In this case it's the Construction Management Student Organization (CMO).

Note that if you are in CM200L/CM300L/CM400L or other CM classes that meet on Fridays, you may not be eligible to volunteer due to time conflicts. You may still sign up, but your absence will still be subject to the attendance policy of your class and may effect your grade.

Do you want to golf?  The format is Best Ball so you don't have to be good at golfing!!  Not all students who want to golf will get a spot. *
If you need to borrow clubs, please indicate Male or Female and Right Handed or Left Handed.
Do you need a ride to Sedona? *
Can you drive other students to Sedona? We can reimburse you for gas.  Please indicate how many extra people fit in your car. (not including the driver!!!)  Feel free to name them if you know who wants to ride with you. *
Anything else you want to ask, or want me to know?  My office is in the EGR building, room 302B.  You can always stop by!
