Muscatel AVID Application for Future 8th Graders for the 2021-2022 School Year
Dear Families,

Advancement Via Individual Determination, AVID, is a seventh through twelfth grade program that prepares students in the academic middle for admission to a four-year university. Students take an AVID elective course throughout middle school and high school that provides them with the skills needed to be successful in advancing academically with the ultimate goal of attending college. For 40 years, AVID has been instrumental in preparing students for success in higher education.

The core component of the AVID program is the AVID elective, a class students take every year as they challenge themselves in more rigorous classes. Students are expected to be organized, to make effective use of their time, to write effectively, and to think critically, all while being immersed in an environment that cultivates a college-going culture. The class also includes tutoring sessions that are led by college students and provide support for success in the academically rigorous curriculum. Additionally, the AVID class provides access to information about colleges and universities through field trips, guest speakers, college tutors, scholarship opportunities and college admission requirement information.

If you feel your child would be a good fit for the AVID program, please have him or her complete the application, family information, and short answers on the following pages to help us get to know them.

Applications are due on Friday, February 20th, 2021 by 10:00 PM. Please know that all information shared on this application will be used for recruitment purposes only and will only be viewed by Muscatel Middle School’s AVID Site Team.
