Application, Land Restoration School 2023

* As of March 28: Applications are closed for 2023. Contact us to stay in touch for future sessions or with interest in collaboration. Thank you.

We are interested in you and your work. The Land Restoration School could be a collaborative and transformative experience for you.

This 8-week, four days-per-week residential academic program teaches the principles, practice, and planning of ecological restoration for degraded lands — an educational immersion in land restoration. In 2023 the Land Restoration School will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Field Station in Saukville, approximately 30 miles north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The 8-week session runs June 13 - August 4, 2023.

We seek participants who are passionate about the environment, ready to jump into an intensive educational experience and express a personal goal of working in ecological restoration or an affiliated field. Career-changers, college students, and recent high school graduates are all welcome. The Land Restoration School will teach a cohort of 6-12 each year. Our classroom is indoors and outdoors; hands-on restoration work is an integral part.

Participants are provided with education in classroom and in field, lodging (for non-local participants) and a paid stipend of $4,800 to defray living expenses. Additional paid related work may be available before or after the 8-week program (hourly rate $18). On completion of the 8-week program, participants should expect to have the knowledge and skill set to be employed in the ecological restoration field or start their own operation as a budding entrepreneur.

Please review our website www.landrestorationschool.org. In the application below we ask for your contact information. Then, we ask five open-ended questions.

In addition, if you have a resume that describes your educational and work experiences and goals, or want to add a letter, please email it to nancyaten@landscapesofplace.com.

You will receive an email acknowledging your application within 3 business days. That email will provide additional details about the timeline for decisions about participation. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis beginning January 10, with initial reviews in early February.

Thank you for your interest.
