Disclaimer
A Place For Us and its organizers act on a purely voluntary basis and do not receive any compensation for the services offered or provided herein. We rely on third party volunteers to provide mentoring services. We rely in good faith on the information mentors have provided us about their backgrounds, credentials, qualifications, abilities, and aptitudes, which we have not independently sought to verify. We do not guarantee any educational results. We have instructed our mentors not to seek in person contact with mentees while restrictions of COVID-19 are in place nationally. Mentors and mentees have been instructed to not record mentoring sessions unless they have the expressed written permission of all parties involved, including the mentee's legal guardians. However, we do not monitor the interaction between mentors and mentees; this is a private interaction, and we rely upon the mentors to comport themselves appropriately within the bounds of our policies and any applicable law. If at any point, we determine that a mentor or mentee has violated our policies, they may be removed from our program. Please let us know if you suspect or know of any such violations immediately.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, A Place For Us, its past, present, and future organizers, representatives, mentors, mentees, agents, parents, divisions, partnerships, affiliates, and other related entities, owners, administrators, directors, officers, partners, representatives, members, associates, employees, and attorneys will not be liable for any direct, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or multiple damages, or loss of any kind, whether incurred directly or indirectly, resulting from your use of A Place For Us, its services, or those provided mentors affiliated with A Place For Us.To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, I waive and release A Place For Us with respect to any and all claims I have or may have against a Place for Us.
Choice of Law
These policies and terms, and any disputes or claims arising from these policies and terms, shall be governed by the internal laws of the state of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.

1. What information do we collect?
We collect certain information from you (our volunteer mentors, our mentees and our mentees’ families) to conduct a variety of activities related to our objective of arranging matches between volunteer mentors and students in need of mentoring. We collect:
Information provided by you during signup. This information includes, but is not limited to: names, email addresses, phone numbers, University, and disability.
Information provided about you by other users. Volunteer mentors may provide us information about changes in mentees’ needs. Likewise, mentees and mentees’ families may provide us information about a volunteer mentor’s fit for them or for their student.
2. How do we use your information?
We use personal information collected from you:
To communicate with you. We and/or the volunteer mentors may use the personal information you send to us for our communication purposes. You can opt-out of our outreach emails at any time.
To respond to your inquiries and to offer support. We and/or the volunteer mentors may use your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the use of our services.
To request feedback. We and/or the volunteer mentors may use your information to request feedback and to contact you about your use of our services.
To improve our matching service. We and/or the volunteer mentors may use your information to identify usage trends, to evaluate and improve our services, and to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of our outreach efforts.
3. Will your information be shared with anyone?
We will share your information with third parties:
To report on our service’s performance. In the event that we share general statistics about our service’s performance with third parties or with the public, no identifiable personal information will be included. We will only include your personal information in such reports if we receive your express written consent (or, if needed, the consent of your parent or guardian).
To perform other activities with your consent. We may process your data if you have given us specific consent to use your personal information for a specific purpose.
To fulfill legal obligations. We may disclose your information where we are legally required to do so in order to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, judicial proceedings, court orders, or other legal processes.

5. What rights do students’ parents and legal guardians have?
Students’ parents and legal guardians can email

Revoke their consent and refuse the further use or collection of personal information from their child.

At your request, we can delete your information from our active databases. However, some information may be retained in our files to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, enforce our Terms of Service and/or comply with legal requirements.
9. Do we update this policy?
Yes. We may update this privacy policy from time to time to stay compliant with relevant laws, and to reflect any changes to our services. At such a time, we will change the “last updated” text at the bottom of this policy. Significant changes will also be communicated via email to our volunteer mentors, mentees, and mentees’ families.

Mentor Contract

I agree to abide by all the policies of A Place For Us and assume full responsibility for all of my actions as an unpaid volunteer in this program. I recognize that if at any time I break any policy of A Place For Us, I may be removed from the program and I will assume total liability for any consequences of my action. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, I waive and release A Place For Us with respect to any and all claims I have or may have against A Place for Us. I shall at all times comply with all policies (
https://forms.gle/VM2VD7uZqqLHxYmi6) and procedures of a Place for Us as in effect or as amended from time to time. These policies include but are not limited to the following:
1. Mentors will not meet in person with their students at any point in the A Place For Us program, while the COVID-19 Restrictions are in place nationally.
2. Mentors will not record any meeting with their mentees without the express and written permission of those students and their legal guardians in accordance with state law. Any recordings that are made will be made only at mentees’ request (with the permissions above granted and the express written consent of the mentor) and will not be made available to anyone other than the student.
3. Mentors are expected to be fully honest with A Place For Us about their backgrounds, credentials, qualifications, abilities, and aptitudes in the context of their positions as volunteer mentors.
4. Mentors are expected to commit to meeting with their mentee at least twice a month until the mentee no longer needs mentorship.
5. Mentors may not share content with mentees that contains sexual images, vulgarity, graphic violence, threats, hate speech, or incitements to violence. A Place for Us prohibits and does not tolerate discrimination or harassment. Behavior does not need to violate the law in order to constitute a violation of this policy. This policy prohibits behavior that harasses an employee on the basis of the employee’s actual or perceived race, color, religion, gender, creed, national origin, age, pregnancy, marital status, citizenship, sexual orientation, gender-related identity, disability, genetic information, veteran status, military status, unfavorable discharge from military status, order of protection status, or any other legally protected status. For purposes of this policy, sexual harassment specifically is defined as unwelcome or unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or any other conduct of a sexual nature (verbal, physical or other). Examples of sexual harassment or discrimination include but are not limited to:
Unwanted and unwelcome sexual pressure, attention, invitation, requests or advances;
Leering, making sexual gestures, or displaying sexually suggestive objects, pictures, cartoons or posters;
Sexual propositions, jokes, flirtations, innuendo, or discussions of sexual activity (whether in conversation or through electronic or other means);
Inappropriate touching or other physical contact, including but not limited to patting, pinching or brushing against another’s body, as well as sexual assault or rape; or
Sex stereotyping, whereby conduct or personality traits are considered inappropriate or lead to adverse treatment because they may not conform to other people's ideas or perceptions about how individuals of a particular sex should act or look.
Any mentor or mentee who observes or has reason to believe that another mentor or mentee has been or is being harassed or otherwise treated in a manner inconsistent with this policy, or simply has questions or concerns about what constitutes harassing or other inappropriate behavior under this policy, should promptly report such questions or concerns to a Place for Us.
6. Mentors are not, to their knowledge, restricted by judicial decree, court order, or other legal restriction from interacting directly with minors.
7. Mentors may be terminated from the program at any time if they are shown to violate any given policy of A Place For Us.
8. Mentors are required to report all credible suspicions of abuse or neglect of a minor to the applicable state agency, as required under state law.
9. Except as required by law or to the extent practicable, the Mentor/Mentee agree not to disclose the any medical or personal information learned about any other individual through any services offered or provided by a Place Like Us.
10. Mentors may be current college students, or those enrolled in degree-granting professional schools, post-graduate programs, or recent graduates (graduated within 5 years). If you do not currently fall into any of these categories, please email us at
aplaceforusnetwork@gmail.com to discuss other ways to get involved.
11.Mentors must watch and complete the mentor training on the next Google Form.
12. Mentors understand that may learn personal information about their mentee and their family members which they will keep confidential.
13. Mentors will not engage in activities that pose a risk for injury such as consuming alcohol or drugs, high-risk sporting activities, etc., while in the presence of their mentee. When in doubt, I will consult my Mentor Coordinator.
14. Mentors will refrain from using tobacco products in the presence of their mentee.
15. Mentors will maintain regular contact with A Place For Us by responding to calls, letters, and emails. Especially if any problems arise with their mentee or significant changes occur in the mentor's life such as a change in my address, phone number, place of employment, internship, etc.
In light of this understanding, I commit to honoring A Place For Us policies and mission as a volunteer.

Mentee Contract

I agree to abide by all the policies of A Place For Us and assume full responsibility for all of my actions as a participant or as the legal guardian of a participant in this program. I recognize that if at any time I or my child break any policy of A Place For Us, I or my child may be removed from the program and I or my child will assume total liability for any consequences of my or my child’s actions. In signing this form,To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, I waive and release A Place For Us with respect to any and all claims I have or may have against a Place for Us. I or my child shall at all times comply with all policies and procedures of a Place for Us as in effect or as amended from time to time. These policies (

1. Mentees under the age of 18 must ask their parents or guardians to review this policy and accept all terms on their behalf. Mentees under the age of 18 can only participate in A Place For Us with the consent of their parent or guardian.
2. Mentees agree to participate in virtual mentoring services conducted over video and/or phone at least twice a month for one school year.
3. Mentees will not meet in person with their mentors at any point in the A Place For Us program, while the COVID-19 Restrictions are in place nationally.
4. Mentees will not record any meeting without the express written permission of their legal guardians and their mentors, in accordance with state law. Any recordings abiding by these standards should not be made available to anyone other than the mentee recording and should be used only for mentees’ educational purposes.
5. Students are expected to be fully honest with the A Place For Us program about their experiences with their mentors and should uphold proper standards of conduct in the context of their participation. They will report any concerns that they have about interactions with tutors or potential policy violations by mentors to A Place For Us.
6. Mentees will treat their mentor with respect by be willing to try new activities with their mentor, being on time for meetings or communicating if they need to reschedule, and respecting their mentor's time outside of mentor sessions, etc.
