Welcome, and thank you for showing an interest in being part of the Student Leadership Team. We hope you will find the application process to be interesting and enriching regardless of the outcome. This application represents a significant departure from the standard way of selecting student leaders. In addition, some leadership positions have been added or deleted to better fit the current organization. If you have any questions about the process or your application, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time. Good luck, and work hard to best represent yourself through this process.

Your candidacy will be judged on the following criteria:
1. Past performance.
2. Quality of your application.
3. Future leadership potential.
4. Best fit for the individual and the organization

Requirements for all Student Leaders:
1) Will be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the 2023-24 school year.
2) Demonstrated leadership skills in Band and other activities.
3) Demonstrated excellence in musicianship on your main instrument.
4) Maintain academic eligibility
5) Drum Major - Conducting skills appropriate for the music being performed. 
6) Section Leaders - traditionally is the principal player in the section, but isn’t necessarily guaranteed to that individual. Outstanding musicianship is key, as well as demonstrated leadership ability and potential.
7) Commitment to attend all before/after school practices & sectionals, Friday and Saturday rehearsals (if needed), football games, and all school/community events. Certainly there may be conflicts, illness, etc, but full commitment to attend all practices and performances is required and expected of any student leader.
8) Properly prepare and audition for All-District & All-Region Bands.
9) Properly prepare and perform at either the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest on a Class 1 Solo or Class 1 Ensemble. A Class 2 Solo may be permitted in certain situations with director's permission.
10) Serve as a band mentor/lesson teacher for at least 1 beginner band student and at least 1 middle school band student.
11) Be in 2 Periods of HS Band Classes! (Double block band classes)

Failure to fulfill these requirements, either in full or partially, may result in removal of leadership position and/or grade reduction.
