Q1 & 2: Option Selection (2022-23)
At ECVS, junior high students participate in complimentary courses or commonly referred to options. You will be placed in a new option every quarter, for a total of 4 options this year.  You will not be permitted to take the same option twice. 

Options will run at the following times each week:

Tuesday - Grade 7s: Blocks 4 and 5

Instructions:

Please read through the following option descriptions that will be offered at ECVS during QUARTER 1 and QUARTER 2. Select your top FIVE choices from the options list. Please note that course fees have been included in the descriptions.

**You will sign up for Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 Options in January.

CTF Course Descriptions:

Ancient Cultures 

This course will have students choose by majority what two cultures will be studied. The cultures that students will choose from include Vikings, Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, Roman Empire and Medieval Europe. Topics will focus on daily life, religion, food, sport, language, art, social hierarchy and major events. This course will have a lot of hands-on activities as well as some self-directed studies. 


Art

What would I do if I were an artist?  You will use a range of tools, materials and media to communicate thoughts and feelings, to think artistically and to value art. You will both draw and create art, as well as be inspired by art that others have made. This course has a $25 fee per student.


Culinary Arts (Foods)

In this option, students will develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to use a variety of food preparation techniques to plan and prepare nutritious, tasty and attractive foods. Students will critically think, work as a team and use time management in a kitchen setting. Students will also develop knowledge skills and attitudes that have immediate and future applications in their personal and family lives, as well as in local and global environments.  There will be a $30 fee per student.

   

Duolingo Language Challenge - French as a Second Language (FSL)

Bonjour, mes amis! Welcome to French Second Language. A class where we explore the French language and culture! Together we will learn and expand our basic knowledge, improve our reading, writing and listening and speaking in French. The exploration of French will be led through the educational app Duolingo, movies, stories, podcasts, games, music, and more! This course has a $10 fee per student. 


Esthetics

Students will explore topics related to Esthetics and Beauty, both for personal use and as a future career option. This course is intended to introduce students to and allow them space to discover for themselves basic nail care & art, haircare and basic updo’s, beginner skincare, and age-appropriate makeup application. This course has a $15 fee per student. 


Graphic Design

Students will explore the basic principles of design through digital content creation. We will explore logo creation, marketing, and infographics through small projects to highlight each of the principles and finish with a final product commissioned by grade 8 Entrepreneur students. 




Little Buddies

Do you like spending time and helping little kids? In Little Buddies, you will be linked up with grade one students and have the opportunity to be a positive role model. You will teach them new skills, play games, build relationships and explore classroom activities.


Photography

Students will become familiar with cameras and their different options. Students will explore different aspects of photography with a focus on composition. Students will also practice the art of doing critiques, in order to improve their own photographic skills. They will also dabble in editing pictures. This course has a $10 fee per student.


Ted Talks and Inspirational Speaking

Prepare to be inspired, engaged and motivated. In the first part of this course, we will explore some top Ted Talks. During the second part of this class, students will have the opportunity to create their own Ted Talk while learning how to be a better public speaker and captivate their classmates with their creativity and knowledge. 


Woodworking

Students will learn the tools and techniques of the wood shop, with an emphasis on safety, through hands-on learning. Students will prodo-type structures and props using nothing but cardboard. Students will use their woodworking skills through the design and construction of a storage device. This course will have a $40 fee per student.
