Waterside Workshops Internship Interest Form
Please note: At the moment, we are only accepting interns who are eligible to participate through our program partners, including Berkeley YouthWorks, Berkeley Youth Alternatives, and Richmond YouthWorks. If you are interested in an internship, please review your eligibility for these work experience programs and submit an application. If you are approved, you may indicate your preference to work at Waterside Workshops.

Thank you for your interest in Waterside Workshops' internship program. We offer year-round internships in bike repair and wooden boatbuilding for youth between the ages of 14 and 24. Interns are trained by Waterside’s staff members, gaining work experience that is applicable to a wide variety of careers in retail, customer service, and the trades. Upon completion of an internship, we support interns as they plan for independent employment and post-secondary education opportunities.

Street Level Cycles is our youth bicycle mechanics and bicycle reuse program. Interns learn professional bike repair by refurbishing used bicycles, which are redistributed back to the community as affordable, sustainable transportation. Youth also help community members fix their own bicycles in our free, do-it-yourself Open Shop workspace. 

Berkeley Boathouse helps youth develop vocational skills in the areas of woodworking and construction, while providing a real-world application for product design, physics, and geometry. Youth interns regularly take the boats that they have built out on the Berkeley Aquatic Park, and they provide boat rentals to the general public. 

Waterside interns learn the following skills:
  • Collaboration, communication, and teamwork
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership
  • Bike repair, maintenance, customer service, and sales
  • Woodworking, construction, and hand-tool use
