Workshop Details
Territory Teens Breaking Boundaries, a group of youth leaders who believe It is important to understand and include the input and experiences of young people, is putting on two Walk In Our Shoes urban design workshops. The workshops focus on how gender, identity, age, geography, hostile architecture and more impact youth experience in public spaces.

Workshop 1: Youth to Youth. Gaining the input and stories of a diverse group of adolescents in Chicago.
Workshop 2: Inter-generational. Focusing on sharing youth experience with adults.

Together, the workshops create a safe space for young people to share their experiences and vision for the "available city," and then for their ideas to be heard.

The workshop is 90 minutes. Workshop participants will explore urban design issues through conversations and activities to build empathy, reflect on existing conditions, take a stand and propose design solutions. Activities  will include small group breakouts, sketching, and jamboards. For active participation, laptops are recommended, and if possible, bring some paper, pens or pencils.

Territory’s Walk In Our Shoes workshops are presented in partnership with the 2021 Chicago Architecture Biennial “Available City.” and We Will Chicago, a new three-year, citywide planning initiative. Territory sits on the Advisory Committee for We Will, representing youth voice.

Youth Participants, ages 14-21, will receive a $25 gift card for showing up and sharing your expertise in the Youth to Youth workshop. Advance registration required.
