How I Became an Artista Summer Workshops
How I Became an Artista is CALA’s cultural literacy program. The K–12 educational program exposes students in the Metro Phoenix area to the life and work of Latinx and Latin American artists.

This Summer CALA will be offering free art-kits for an at-home art activity inspired by two workshops with teaching artists Gloria Martínez-Granado and Diana Calderón. In June, Calderon will work with students to present a bookmaking workshop where students will learn about the democratic medium of bookmaking. And in July, Martínez-Granado will present a weaving workshop that explores the cultural legacies of Huichol weaving techniques in Contemporary art. Kits will contain thematic art supplies, instructions and a link to our website. Workshops will be available on our website starting June 5th.
