The Riverside County Mock Trial Competition, sponsored by the Riverside County Office of Education, Riverside County Bar Association, and the Riverside County Superior Courts, provides an exciting opportunity for high school students to match wits in a true-to-life legal context. Mock Trial simulates a criminal trial, with students trying the case as members of the defense and prosecution teams. Through performance-based education, the program furthers an understanding of both the content and processes of our legal system; increases basic skills, analytical ability and self-confidence; and promotes cooperation among students of various cultures and interests.
We invite you to consider the opportunity to be part of the program. This year the competition is being held virtually, possibly on Zoom, which allows volunteers to participate from any location they choose.
The dates and times include:
•
Wednesday, February 2, 2022 – 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
•
Wednesday, February 9, 2022 – 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
•
Wednesday, February 16, 2022 – 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
•
Saturday, February 19, 2022 – 8:30 to 11 a.m.
Opportunities are available for legal volunteers to act as an attorney coach or an attorney scorer. Specific participating high schools throughout Riverside County are in need of coaching assistance.
For those who register to be a scorer, confirmation information and details such as rulebook(s), case materials, and instructions will be sent in early January 2022.
If you have an interest in becoming an attorney coach instead of being a scoring attorney, please contact Renae Ramsey,
