2021-2022 Jr. Model United Nations - Student Diplomat Program
Welcome back to another year of World Affairs Council of Philadelphia middle school education programming! We are excited to announce our 2021-2022 academic year programming, featuring the Jr. Model United Nations - Student Diplomat program, a five-month journey introducing middle school students from around the Greater Philadelphia area to the world of international relations and cultural diplomacy. From the perspective of a United Nations member state, students engage directly with global affairs and develop research, writing, and public speaking skills as they seek collaborative solutions to pressing global issues.

As participants in the program, students will: (1) explore the mission, structure, and function of the United Nations; (2) learn how to write, amend and defend a policy resolution; (3) apply their research and critical thinking skills to specific global issues; (4) learn the role of diplomacy and deliberation in international affairs; and (5) develop skills in conflict resolution, problem-solving and cross-cultural communication.

This year's program is titled Sustaining Our Global Future, and will feature two committee topics: "Building the Sustainable Cities of the Future" and "Creating Sustainable Food Systems".

This program is being developed with both in-person and virtual program opportunities to accommodate school and district health and safety protocols. Please read though the application carefully and in its entirety for important updates on our program model, pricing, and program dates. Due to space and capacity limitations at some of our venues, in-person offerings may be limited to a first-come first-serve basis. In addition, all program dates and formats are subject to change based on local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines.

You can find more information on the Jr. Model UN program on our website:

You can also find specific information on program dates in our Jr. Model UN Program Schedule: https://wacphila.org/uploads/attachments/ckst1dlf109q5dtquwfk1jwxa-2021-22-ms-programs-schedule.pdf

We strive to include the greatest number of students possible in our program while continuing to provide quality support and educational resources. Thus, the Jr. Model United Nations - Student Diplomat program allows for a minimum of 2 students and a maximum of 60 students per school. The program generally fills quickly, so if you have any questions regarding capacity or school-specific needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to Eric Bumbaca, Director of Student Programs, at ebumbaca@wacphila.org
