Sacred Heart | Volunteer at the Emergency Housing Assistance Hotline (Fall 2021)
Project Description: The Housing Department at Sacred Heart Community Service manages a call line that community members can call to make appointments to see if they qualify for rental or deposit assistance. Currently they are experiencing a high volume of calls and need more volunteers to staff the call line. Volunteers are essential to Sacred Heart’s work, as they are mostly the first point of contact for folks who are needing assistance. If Sacred Heart and volunteers are able to connect community members to the right resource, we are doing our part to support people in a time of crisis. If you are someone who wants to help connect folks to the right resources and support the efforts to eliminate poverty, please come volunteer with us.

Responsibilities: Answer incoming calls and return voicemails to provide resources related to housing, food, legal aid, immigration services, and rental assistance to community members in need.

Desired Skills:  Fluency required in Spanish. Fluency in Vietnamese or Cantonese, preferred. Volunteers must be compassionate. Callers may have lots of emotions, high demand, so etiquette and neutrality in conversations are important. Students need to understand the volume and intensity of calls they will have. Callers may not be comfortable with using technology, therefore patience and good customer service is important.

Timing: M-F 8 AM-5 PM PST. 3-4 hour shifts preferred. 2-3 shifts per week (6-12 hours/wk).Minimum
2.5 month commitment.
