Description: Complete the Kepler Great Walk in 4 days/3 nights. Set out on a wilderness adventure above the clouds, high in the mountains above Lakes Te Anau and Manapouri. The drama of these vast tussock-covered ridgelines and spectacular alpine vistas contrasts with the peaceful lakes and beech forest of the Iris Burn Valley. A great variety of flora and fauna: kea, whio, glowworms; caves.
Itinerary:
Saturday 27 April - fly Wellington to Queenstown on a group ticket, bus to Te Anau, stay the night.
Sunday 28 April - water taxi across the lake (or walk from carpark); walk to Luxmore Hut, approx 6hrs and 800m elevation, a challenging climb for EM.
Monday 29 April - walk to Iris Burn Hut, approx 6hrs.
Tuesday 30 April - walk to Moturau Hut, approx 6hrs.
Wednesday 1 May - walk out (about 4-5hrs), bus to Queenstown, stay overnight.
Thursday 2 May - flight back to Wellington.
Costs are TBC.
-Kepler huts ($68 per night x3 nights).
-Flights ($271 return if we can secure 10 people. Otherwise return flights will be at your own cost).
-Club Admin fee $20
-1 night accommodation in Te Anau before the track, likely backpacker style about $40-$45.
-1 night accommodation in Queenstown after the track, likely backpacker style about $45.
-return shuttle Te Anau/Queenstown.

-water taxi/local shuttle
Please note, a $50 deposit for flights will be non-refundable. The number of spaces are contingent on obtaining DoC hut bookings when Great Walks bookings open.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Not suitable for a first club trip.
For safety purposes, you must have been on at least one overnight club trip before you can come on this walk. This helps us make sure you have an appropriate level of fitness and experience.
