WGL-ASPRS Student Travel Grant for GeoWeek 2024

Purpose
As part of our continuing support for outreach and education, the Western Great Lakes Region (WGL) of ASPRS established a program to provide financial support for students actively engaged in the organization. 

Award Information
The WGL-ASPRS Region Board is supporting up to two (2) awards to cover GeoWeek 2024 conference registration, as well as travel, lodging, and meal stipend costs, a total value up to $2,500 per award.  Award also includes a one-year Student Membership to ASPRS.

This award will be offered by WGL to undergraduate or graduate students attending an academic institution within the WGL-ASPRS Region during the spring of 2024. A mentor from the Region will be assigned to the awardees to guide the students as they prepare for the conference, answer any questions, and make introductions to others within the greater geospatial community while at the event.

About GeoWeek: This event is a collaboration between multiple geospatial organizations, including ASPRS.  This annual event provides unique opportunities for interacting with technology leaders, learning from experts in educational sessions, and networking with peers and employers from around the U.S. and the world. Event dates and location: February 11-13, 2024, Colorado Convention Center, Denver, CO, USA

About ASPRS: Founded in 1934, the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) is a scientific association serving thousands of professional members around the world. Our mission is to advance knowledge and improve understanding of mapping sciences to promote the responsible applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and supporting technologies.

Application Process
Applications are due December 1, 2023.  Qualified applicants shall complete a brief form including information about academic status, interests, and career aspirations.  Selection of award recipients will be made by the WGL board, based on eligibility and responses to a few questions about your academic background and interests. Once approved, the WGL ASPRS treasurer will work with the awardees on the travel arrangements.
