Empoder's Summer 2021 #TeachCS program is a 5-week Virtual summer immersion program open to high-school and college students, as well as educators who have taken A.P. Computer Science (or equivalent), or are proficient in coding and/or have some familiarity with web development (HTML, CSS and JavaScript).

The #TeachCS program will run VIRTUALLY July 6 - August 6, 2021 Monday - Friday from 9 am - 3 pm (with a lunch break from 12-1). During the first two weeks of the program #TeachCS participants will learn the web development curriculum for the middle school girls consisting of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and gain strategies for teaching and delivering the curriculum in a virtual format to middle school girls from under-served communities.

During the final 3 weeks of the #TeachCS program, you will teach your own small group of middle school girls in the Empoder Latinas Code program. Every day you will guide your students through a lesson plan and coding tutorial that we have provided for you, and a project of the day that you will support your students in completing.

During this time, the morning sessions 9 am - 12 pm will be dedicated to teaching the middle school girls. In the afternoon there will be a daily #TeachCS meeting with all #TeachCS participants, and you will have time to review your students code and projects to ensure that they are progressing accordingly. You will also have the option to attend career panels and various speaker series that are part of the Empoder Latinas Code program should you wish to. During the entire program, you will have support from our team of Lead Instructors that have developed the middle school curriculum, as well as from the program staff, to ensure that you are supported in your teaching experience.

Empoder's #TeachCS program is an enriching, meaningful and impactful volunteer experience through which you will also gain a minimum of 140 hours of community service hours. The Empoder Latinas Code summer program is a free summer enrichment program for middle school girls from under-served communities in Silicon Valley.
