Thank you for expressing interest in becoming an alter server at Mother of God! We are grateful to those who contribute their time and talents to this ministry and are excited to explore the opportunity with you further.

Serving on the alter is a privilege and people within our community look to our servers to be a living example of Christ's teachings and work. We expect our servers to live lives rooted in Christ inside and outside of our Church doors.

Servers are responsible for assisting in a variety of areas within the mass: setting up the alter, reading and distributing Eucharist in certain circumstances.

Servers at Mother of God must be willing and able to serve either Saturday or Sunday mass every week. They must also be available to serve on major holidays and feast days. Depending on the circumstance, there may be a need for individuals to serve multiple masses on these days. Servers are also expected to arrive to mass 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

It is also important to note that we require servers to be 18 years of age or older. We do make some exceptions to this rule. Exceptions are based on a person to person basis. During these conversations we strive to understand why someone feels called to serve, their relationship with Christ, their volunteer history within our community, their state of life and their ability to fulfill the expectations we have for our servers.
