Teachers and Paraprofessionals

Superintendent
Recognized Independent School District New Recognition Program

This spring, Recognized Independent School District will begin a new program intended to recognize excellent paraprofessionals. Each campus will select one person to nominate for the Paraprofessional of the Year. Following are the guidelines:

1. Each campus should establish a committee to nominate three campus paraprofessionals.
2. Every teacher and paraprofessional should be able to vote on the nominees the committee chooses.
3. The committee and the staff should consider these qualities in making their decisions:
a. Dependability - think about attendance and whether the paraprofessional follows through on assignments which are made.
b. Ability to work well with others - think about the relationship the paraprofessional has with teachers, students, and others.
c. Quality of work - think about the work done with students. Does it help students be successful?
d. Ability to communicate well - think about whether the paraprofessional can communicate clearly in writing and orally.
e. Classroom discipline - think about whether the paraprofessional keeps order and is respectful of students.
4. The nominee may be an experienced or new faculty member.
5. The nominee must complete a report telling about their work at the campus.

Once the nominations are sent to our office, a district committee will read the reports and visit the campuses of the finalists in order to select the Paraprofessional of the Year for our district. The winner will be announced at the annual award banquet next May.

We encourage every campus to take part in recognizing these very valuable staff members.
