Some addictions are easier to identify than others--the devastation of drug addictioncompared to, say, a less visible cell phone or food addiction. But there is one seldom-recognized behavioral addiction that is tearing families apart and causing serious harm to society: addiction to political extremism.
Addiction can be assessed on a continuum. Its seriousness can be judged by the harm it causes. If you have lost touch with a family member or valued friend because they have become overly extreme in their political beliefs--and if their behavior is causing harm to themselves or others--there is hope.
We are offering a family/friend support group. Come share your story in a confidential and safe environment, hear the stories of others, and develop tools for dealing with your loved one. This is a pilot project--so you will be in on the ground floor of what we hope will become a national fellowship/movement to support people just like you. You are not alone; there are many of us.
Join us online for six successive Monday evenings at 6PM. The support group will be co-facilitated by Jocelyn Lewiskin-Zaccardi, PhD, LCSW and Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg, a social practice artist. There will be no charge--we thank you in advance for helping to launch this program.
