Why All Way Stop Signs?
-Stops signs are relatively cheap and quick for the city to install, usually occurring within a few months of an official councilmember request to ATLDOT, if staff-approved.
-All-Way Stop Sign intersections ensure all traffic at an intersection expect and look for cross-traffic as they come to a stop, and could lessen speedy through-traffic trying to use Woodward Ave as an alternative or as a cut-through to Memorial Dr SE.
-One current crash scenario includes traffic from cross-streets mistaking an intersection as having all-way stop signs when that is not the case, leading drivers to fail to yield to through-traffic who don't have a stop sign. Another scenario is parked cars limiting sightlines, where a driver thinks the intersection is clear despite an obscured, approaching vehicle who doesn't have to stop. Adding all-way stop signs at these intersections removes these potential scenarios.
-Stop signs give drivers pause, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to be noticed and yielded to more readily for safer street crossings.
