SPEAK Des Plaines is looking for LGBTQIA+ students and allies who would like to help plan a Pride Event at Maine West on Saturday, June 1, 2024. We are working with Mr. Aldworth, Ms Adams and Ms. Mullen to coordinate this event - which will be hosted by Maine West with planning assistance from SPEAK DP. Entertainment - lining up performances/activities for the "main stage"

Outreach/PR - advertisement of the event, reaching out to supportive organizations, & creating a resource list

Crafts - for families to make at the fair (MW will purchase supplies)

Games/Activities

LGBTQIA+ History - work with history organizations to coordinate their displays

Food

Activism - voter registration, local organizations, postcards to elected officials, action items

Decorations

Accessibility & Inclusivity - making sure our event is accessible and inclusive

What "special skills" are you willing to share in the planning of the event? You don't need to be an expert, but something you are good at/interested in/a hobby or unique experience: creating art/graphics for flyers, research LGBTQIA+ history, connections to local organizations, event organizing, public speaking, musical talent, etc

Generally, what is your availability on weeknights and weekends? (we are looking for good times to hold meetings - for example - Saturdays from 9 am-11 am or Wednesday after 7:30 pm - if it varies, you can share that too.)
