EVENT DETAILS

PDWC 2021, the High School Parliamentary Debate World Conference and Competition could not be held in person this year due to COVID-19. Next year, to continue fulfilling the objectives of PDWC, WakuPro will be hosting PDWC 2022 on an online platform. We hope that this global PDWC online event will continue to connect students all around the world.

The PDWC aims are to:
・Foster cultural exchange and deep understanding and appreciation of cultural differences
・Develop young people who want to prepare for a changing world through the development of soft skills, such as
          respectful communication through debate
・Encourage international friendships by supporting each other through debate and discussion (non- native English
speakers being encouraged by native speakers)
・Cultivate global mindedness and growth mindsets
・Understand global and others' perspectives through the development of debate skills.
      ・Advance leadership skills
・Encourage action plans based on learnings.

PDWC Online Format:
PDWC 2022 Online Debate Conference and Competition will be organised by the WakuPro Foundation, Japan and facilitated by Debate Mate, United Kingdom. Debate Mate usually facilitates the annual debate competition at PDWC, Japan.

1. Online debate training by Debate Mate will be held after the opening ceremony (details to be informed at a later date.)
This training session goes over the rules and top debating tips delivered by Debate Mate mentors. All teams must attend one of these sessions.
2. One team from each school will debate in the online competition. The competition is facilitated by Debate Mate.
3. Debate Mate will score the teams, and the top two teams will take part in a final showcase debate that can be watched
live on February 12, 2022. Following the final debate is the closing ceremony of PDWC 2022 Online.
