Black Political Cultivation Arizona (BPCAZ): Governance Board Inquiry
Please read and consider all of the following information before submitting your inquiry to join the BPCAZ Governance Board.

BPCAZ is seeking community members and leaders with direct lived, volunteer, or work experience in the Black, African American, and Black/African refugee and immigrant communities in Arizona to join the volunteer Governance Board for our 501c(4) nonprofit organization. The Governance Board is responsible for oversight for the BPCAZ senior employee team and approving strategic planning for the organization, as well as community promotion and developing resources and connections that can help the organization achieve its mission. Board members are also encouraged to attend, promote, and volunteer at BPCAZ’s occasional in-person events, and regular virtual events.

This is an ideal opportunity for community members who believe in BPCAZ’s mission and want to support the organization by lending a little bit of your time and contributing your talents. As a board member, you are someone who wants see Black Arizonans elected to public office all throughout the state who will fight for policies that will transform the quality of life, fight against white supremacy, and push for bold government decisions that achieve new heights of social welfare, equity, and empowerment for people of color, LGBTQ+ people, people of diverse faiths, and people with disabilities.

The Governance Board holds meetings at least three times per year, and the anticipated minimum amount of time that members will dedicate is approximately 5 hours per month.


Our organization:
Black Political Cultivation Arizona (BPCAZ) is a Black, queer, neurodivergent, femme and nonbinary-led 501(c)(4) non-profit organization. We are flexing our creativity and passion in electoral, organizing, and public policy work to dismantle the systems that categorize our vibrant identities as targets and keep our people poor and caged. We are fighting to transform the quality of life for people of all marginalized identities and backgrounds in our community. Our organization is based in Phoenix, Arizona and is focused on winning transformational policy change at the City of Phoenix, Maricopa County, and state of Arizona levels. Desired qualifications for board members:
- Live in Arizona or be from Arizona. (We also accept inquires from individuals who are engaged political/electoral/academic/otherwise work in other states or on the national stage, that contributes to Black people's wellbeing and advancement)
- Values-aligned with BPCAZ's vision of the future for our people (please review our website and social media for more reference).
- Direct lived or service experience in the Black community, preferably in Maricopa County, Arizona.
- Willingness to provide time and resources to the organization
- Fundamental financial literacy
- Local political and electoral literacy
- Commitment to fundraise $1500 per year for the organization (if you believe this may be a barrier for you, we still want to hear from you - go ahead and submit an inquiry!)

We especially seek potential board members that are Black, immigrants and refugees, women or nonbinary people, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and people of working-class backgrounds, but everyone is welcome to inquire.
