Basic sailing classes are held every summer. It takes a lot of effort to keep it going year by year. SEAS needs Lead instructors, coordinators, assistant instructors, water session assistants, safety boat operators. Instructors' training is scheduled once a year, too.
Please leave your contact information for the events in which you are willing to participate.
Lead instructors coordinate with assistants the topics each will teach during each session, and the water sessions. Lead instructors complete the paperwork for the college and set up the communications with the students.
Coordinators help Lead instructors with organizational issues, scheduling, printouts, emails and notes to volunteers, help to organise Swimming Test etc.
Assistant Instructors help in class, present 1 or 2 topics each day. If the same instructor assists more than one year, the 2nd year (s)he presents different topics. This is a great opportunity to master your teaching skills under the mentoring of the lead instructor. SEAS needs a pool of capable teachers.
Water session:
- Water session assistants skipper the boats with 2-3 students, guiding them to practice their classroom learned skills. Each student is encouraged to try different functions on the boat during their water sessions to their comfort level.
- First Mates help the skipper to handle the students safely - good opportunity to review all sailing skills and have a free day on water!
- Safety boat operators provide help and coordination during water sessions, operate Safety boat and (cis!) guard daysailers on the way from the dock in the morning and back into dock at the end of the day .
