A sidesplitting sendup of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time when water is worth its weight in gold.  Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is an hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Previous VTE productions:  FAME, Godspell, Les Miserables, Seussical the Musical, All Shook Up and Little Shop of Horrors..

Our session will consist of:

Full director-actor collaboration – teens will have the ability to collaborate in an ensemble piece that is guided by the adult staff and allows room for growth as actors throughout the entire process.

Process over Product – by producing this piece of theater and telling this story, the actors will receive new points of view on theatrical techniques that can help further their career. By placing more emphasis on the rehearsal process, actors will be self-reflective on their journey as actors.

Professional Environment – all actors will be treated and will be expected to follow professional guidelines throughout the rehearsal process.

Focus on Ensemble –under the direction of our adult staff, emphasis will be placed on the creation and execution of ensemble.

AUDITIONS and CALLBACKS –Auditions and callbacks will be held on September 21.

CASTING–Information about what is required for auditions will be sent out prior to auditions.

PERFORMANCE — Tickets for this production are $12; all seats will be secured online. If you have conflicts with your school productions, talk to us about your concerns so we can make this work for you . .
