There are many upcoming opportunities to get involved in UMAST in the coming year as leaders and volunteers. Whether you have skills you want to apply in a new way to enhance the UMAST organization, or you want to develop new skills and experience, we would welcome your contributions to make 2024 a great year for our membership and community.
See below for descriptions of appointed leadership positions to be selected by the UMAST Board:
Fiesta Chair:
- Works with UMAST Treasurer and Executive Board to coordinate the annual Fiesta Parade Street Chair fundraiser for UMAST.
- Must be available April 26 and 27 for Battle of Flowers and Fiesta Flambeau parades.
- Main responsibilities are volunteer recruitment and engagement, and day-of logistics for the parade street chair setup and take down.
Conference Chair:
- Spearhead the planning efforts for the UMAST Annual Conference (takes place in Fall).
- Leads the Conference Planning Committee and day-of logistical team
- Encompasses many skills and responsibilities such as event planning, volunteer recruitment, fundraising, programming, logistics, vendor management, project management, and communication.
Programming and Event Chair:
- Plan professional development, social, and volunteer events throughout the year, besides the Annual Conference.
- Recruits volunteers or single-event leads
- Identifies venues, catering, and programming
- Partners with other organizations to plan joint events
- Coordinates with Communications team to promote events on UMAST Website and Social Media
Bylaw Review Chair:
- Leads the effort to review UMAST's nonprofit bylaws and propose revisions/updates to be voted upon by UMAST membership before the end of 2024.
- Knowledge of nonprofit governance and compliance is a plus
Membership Chair:
- Facilitate UMAST membership applications from individuals and groups
- Grow the intersection of UMAST membership and Texas City Management Association (TCMA) membership by cross-promoting between organizations
- Engage with student groups at UTSA, St. Mary's, and other relevant higher education programs
- Maintain membership database and contact list
- Join Texas City Management Association (TCMA) and attend TCMA Region 8 monthly meetings
Communications Chair / Webmaster:
- Coordinates UMAST communications via website, email newsletter, and social media
- Update UMAST website design and layout
- Knowledge and skills: Web User Experience (UX) and HTML, Graphic Design, Communications
Donations and Sponsorships Chair:
- Obtain sponsorships for events
- Re-initiate UMAST Scholarship program
- Plan fundraiser for Scholarship Fund
