Judkins P-Patch produce rescue by bike volunteer registration form | 2nd and 4th Mondays at 10am | Summer & Fall 2021
The Judkins P-Patch Community Giving Garden just east of Judkins Park in the south Central District needs our help harvesting and transporting produce by bike to the Byrd Barr Place food bank on the second and fourth Monday mornings!

Every second and fourth Monday at 10am the Judkins P-Patch is hosting a garden work party and produce rescue for the Rainier Valley Food Bank just for Pedaling Relief Project volunteers.

We are looking for 4 volunteers who are interested in volunteering at least 1 Monday a month. The meet up point and time for this volunteer opportunity is 2321 S Norman St, Seattle, WA 98144 from 10am until Noon. You will need to be able to carry at least 30 pounds of produce on your bike using a rack, basket, panniers, or a backpack. This time commitment for this garden work party and produce rescue by bike is 2 hours. Bike trailers are available at the Byrd Barr Place food bank if you would like to use one for this produce rescue.

At the garden work party we will be picking and harvesting a wide variety of kale, lettuce, beats, potatoes, squash, chard, and a whole lot more from the garden beds that the P-patch has set aside specifically to support the Byrd Barr Place food bank along with other food security organizations. This garden work party will be hosted by one of the P-Patch’s master gardeners, so if you have any questions about edible plants or gardening at home they will be happy to answer any of your questions!

After the garden work party we’ll load up our bikes with our hand picked fresh produce and bike 2.6 miles north to the Byrd Barr Place food bank where one of the food bank’s staff members will be there to collect and weigh your produce donation and answer any questions that you might have about the food bank and the community that you have just helped support with your produce donation.

Helping out in the Judkins P-Patch’s giving garden plots and rescuing produce for the Byrd Barr Place food bank is a fun way to use your bike to get involved in the community!

Are you interested in volunteering for the White Center Food Bank on the Thursday morning (9:30am to 11am) dates below?
This garden harvest party and produce rescue for the Byrd Barr Place food bank will take around two hours. If you have to cancel please email Maxwell at maxwellb@cascadebicycleclub.org
How many bags are you able to transport on your bike?
The boxes that we will be delivering groceries in to each neighbor are 12 inches by 18 inches and will weigh approximately 15 pounds each. If you have a cargo bike or a bike trailer many riders have been able to carry 4 boxes.
Do you need to borrow a bike trailer from us?
These bike trailers are easy to install on your bike and at many of our parner food banks they will be available there for you to borrow while volunteering for us. After you are finished with your food rescue just unhook the trailer and it’s hitch from your bike and give it back to a food bank staff member. Currently our trailers work best with all bikes with a quick-release rear wheel. Compatibility for bikes with a bolt on wheel thru-axle varies. Email maxwellb@cascadebicycleclub.org to see if your bike is compatible with our trailers.
