The inaugural Matthew Oates’ Memorial Award recognises the
significant contribution of a camp leader to Edmund Rice Community Services Tasmania (ERCS). The
leader must possess qualities and values of the late Matthew Oates, a much
loved and greatly respected Eddie Ricer. Matthew was a friend to everyone. He
was an honest and trustworthy person who was always willing to have a go. His
positive and happy nature made everyone feel welcomed and valued. Matthew was
not one to judge others and he was certainly a giver and not a taker. The
recipient of the Matthew Oates’ Memorial award must not only be a dedicated
Eddie Ricer, but also share the values and love for life that Matthew had.
About Matthew:
Matthew Oates was a keen Eddie Ricer. He was involved in Summer Camps at
Roaches Beach and Orford and a Family Camp at Dodges Ferry. He was also
involved in a Winter Fun Fest in Launceston. Matthew was a strong member of the
Eddie Rice - Baby Sharks Basketball Team that played weekly in Launceston.
About the Award
Nomination:
Nominations are welcome for current leaders of ERCS Tasmania a
who demonstrate the above qualities.
Selection Process:
A panel will select the recipient of the Award from the available nominations.
Presentation:
The Award will be presented annually at the ERCS Tas end of
year function by a member of the Oates family, or in their absence a
representative of ERCS. The recipient will receive the
Mathew Oats Shield with their name engraved as well as gaining possession of
the shield for the following year.
