In conversation with her former student, NYU alum Erica Viegas, Professor Alaimo will provide an overview of how social media is affecting every aspect of the lives of women, girls and nonbinary people —from our relationships and our parenting to our physical and mental wellbeing. She will delineate what users, lawmakers, and tech companies can do to solve these problems. An action-plan breakout session with time to network is included.

Kara Alaimo, PhD is Associate Professor of Communication at Fairleigh Dickinson University and has been writing for CNN Opinion about the social impact of social media and issues affecting women since 2016. She is an NYU alumna and has previously taught at NYU.

Erica Viegas is Partnership Manager at the World Economic Forum where she builds strategic partnerships for the Young Global Leaders and the Global Shapers Community—creating leadership development programming for young executives passionate about solving the world’s most pressing problems. She is also a singer-songwriter who has released two albums and toured them across Canada. She has been named one of Avenue Magazine's "Top 40 Under 40" and a "Sizzling 20 Under 30".
