There are no refunds for students who withdraw after the term begins or are asked to leave a class for breaking our behavior policy. Class expenses are based on the number of students we have at the beginning of the term. All teachers and organizers are independent contractors at Different Directions are responsible for their own expenses including space fee, assistant fees and supplies. Once a class has begun, the money paid for the class has been distributed to space, teachers, assistants (if needed) and materials. These non refundable fees have been paid under the agreement that your child will be in attendance for the term. Once the term has begun the spot your child holds cannot be replaced.

The ultimate decision will be made by the Operating Director and board of directors of Different Directions Inc. I understand that myself, child and any guest I bring into Different Directions, will not do intentional damage to the physical plant of Different Directions Inc, or any space while attending a Different Directions class, activity, field trip, or function. I understand that if my child, myself or any of my family or guests actions are aggressive, disrespectful or damaging in any way I may be asked to terminate all activities at Different Directions. Students, Parents, Caregivers and teachers will conduct daily medical self-evaluation. Anyone who experiences symptoms of COVID (or ANY COMMUNICABLE DISEASE OR VIRUS) symptoms must stay home. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD SICK TO CLASSES.
Classes and activities at Different Directions are designed for cooperative, socially holistic and community minded experiences. Our curriculum is based in student participation and group work. Outside toys, games, etc. are a distraction for the students. They tend to create solitary antisocial activities or clicks that exclude students. Students are not allowed to bring outside toys, stuffed animals, trading cards or electronic devices to share or play during classes, recess or breaks. While personal toys are great they need to be shared at the play dates you make for your child outside of class. If a child brings a personal toy they will be asked to put it away until dismissal.
Exception: Some children need help with anxiety and depression. If your child has a special need where there is an item that helps sooth them if they are feeling overwhelmed and anxious please communicate with us and we will be prepared. Do not use this exception as an excuse to let your child bring their favorite stuffy to class. This is if there is a genuine need and will be arranged in advance. We ask that the comfort item only be brought out when necessary.
Personal cell phones used to contact parents or caregivers or for use in the classroom for work related activities are allowed, but must be used outside of class for contacting parents or with the teacher's permission for class work. Younger students will be asked to keep their phones in their bags during class.
The expectation is all phones will be put away unless they are being used for class work. Teenagers who use their phones during class for non-class related work that has not been approved by a teacher will be asked to put their phone away. If they continue to use the phone for personal use during class they will be asked to give up the phone and put it in a basket until the class is over. There may be times when all students in a class will be asked to put their phones away or in a basket for the duration of class.
Know your child's schedule please do not text or call them during class, or expect them to return your call during class time. They will have time between each classes to make and reply to personal calls and messages.
Different Directions is a small space and we are trying to keep as much space available for our students and staff as possible. There is no congregating for adults and caregivers, in the lobby of Different Directions Inc. or the Actor’s Temple. (We are only allowed on the 3rd floor of the Actor's Temple in the space we rent. Please do not use any space outside of our studio in the building) There are parks, coffee shops, and public libraries in the neighborhood for parents to wait for their children. For older students who come to Different Directions on their own, you are welcome to enter the building and go upstairs before entering class. For students who need to be dropped off by a parent or guardian you will be given instructions on drop off and pick up procedures before the first day of class.
Younger students (6-13) who are signed up for multiple (elementary and middle school) classes will be escorted from pick up, to classes, to Down Time Actives and to drop off locations by a Different Directions teacher or staff member. If you would like your child to take morning and afternoon classes please sign them up for Down Time. Students at Different Directions are supervised at all times.
High School students are welcome to come and go on their own and use the student lounge at Different Directions. There will be an adult teacher or staff member at Different Directions at all times during our daily open hours.
Please use the side door to the right. That is our entrance. Ring the bell once and give time for someone to let you in. Do not use the double front doors even if they are wide open. The front door is for the Actors and the temple members.
