We will discuss various educational paths that youth can pursue as they begin to envision their future. Whether it’s a 4-year university, community college or vocational school, it’s important for youth to feel supported. We’ll also explore ways to pay for college, including how to apply for federal, state, and local financial aid and pursuing grants and scholarships. This will enable caregivers to support youth through the confusing process of funding their college education. By becoming more knowledgeable, we can help our youth make college dreams a reality!
This training fulfils:
Section 8-01(e) (5) of the Written Directives for Resource Parents. Certificates will be provided to those that complete the class and registration materials.
Your Instructor: Cindy Mendoza has been in the education field for 15 years servicing students and families of Ventura County. Becoming a first-generation college student led her to teach students in various grades, including students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). With a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in special education, and master's degree in special education, she now serves our county’s foster youth who are transitioning from high school to post-secondary education. As part of The Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program at Ventura County Office of Education, her and her teams goal is to ensure that children, school districts, and caregivers are supported to improve the lives of children in foster care.
