JMS AVID Application for 2024-2025 School Year

What is the AVID exploratory class?
  • An exploratory class that meets every other day for a full block.
  • The goal is to prepare students for a four-year college/university or career of their choice.
  • Curriculum focused on WICOR -  writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking and study skills, as well as college/career/motivational activities.  
  • College students act as tutors for AVID students twice a week
  • Field trips are taken to universities in the area (virtual and in person).
  • Students must commit to note taking, organization, appropriate behavior and GPA requirements across classes.

Applicants typical display individual determination, consistent daily attendance and work completion, leadership potential, and a GPA between 2.0 and 3.5 (Mostly A's and B's).
