BANEA has a small amount of funding available to widen participation in the 2024 conference and facilitate access for those otherwise unable to attend. Applications are welcome from students and scholars at all stages and levels.

There are no specific restrictions on items that can be applied for – applicants are encouraged to tell us what they need and how it will enable them to participate in the conference – however examples could include: flights, accommodation, subsistence and/or visas for international applicants; or costs associated with childcare or an accompanying person for UK participants.

Successful applicants will also be awarded membership of BANEA for one year, and the conference fee will be waived/refunded.

There is no specific maximum or minimum amount that can be requested, however the total amount available is £2,500 and we would expect most grants to be in the low hundreds of pounds.  You are encouraged to apply for the amount you need, but please be aware that each proposal will be evaluated on a proportionate basis.

There are two deadlines:

For international participants needing to apply for a visa to attend the conference: midnight (UK time) on Sunday 17th September 2023.

For participants based in the UK or who can travel to the UK without a visa: midnight (UK time) on Sunday 5th November 2023.

All fully completed applications submitted before the above deadlines will be considered by a sub-group of the BANEA Steering Committee.  The outcome of applications will be communicated within 3 weeks of the above deadlines.

Grantees will be required to provide official receipts demonstrating that the full amount awarded has been spent as per their application on facilitating their participation in conference.  Any unspent funds are required to be returned to BANEA.

The information provided in this form will be retained and used by BANEA for the purposes of assessing and administering your application and any subsequent grant. It will not be shared with anyone outside of the BANEA Steering Committee members responsible for assessing and administrating your application
