Building on last year’s success, the Student Engagement interest group, in partnership with the conference organizers, is facilitating a Buddy program to connect newcomers with returning conference attendees. The Buddy program relies on experienced conference attendees generously giving of their time and advice to new attendees. What makes ISSOTL special are the people and making new members feel welcome is part of building the community we cherish. Those who have been to ISSOTL in the past, please consider being a Buddy this year! All newcomers are welcome including students, academic/administrative staff, faculty, etc.

The Buddy program is a low-stakes, casual opportunity to connect people. We will facilitate the matching process and encourage the following:

• At least one virtual contact before the conference, such as via email or Skype/Zoom
• At least one in-person meet-up early in the conference, such as during coffee breaks or meals
• Newcomers to ask questions
• Returning attendees to share experiences, suggestions on sessions/events to attend, and ways to become more involved

We are also planning to have a dedicated meeting space/time at the start of the conference and an informal dinner during the conference for participants of the Buddy program—stay tuned for details!
