BLPA organizes hikes for postdocs, other young scientists related to the Lab and their guests for all of us to enjoy the Californian nature around us. They are typically somewhere between 3-8 miles long, with varying elevation levels.
As a preparation, it is always a good idea to bring: good boots (hiking boots), plenty of water, packed lunch and snacks, sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, hat) and enough clothes in layers as the weather can suddenly change in the mountains.

For all the (non-driving) participants, we would like to ask for a $10-15 donation (depending on your financial situation and the location) for gas, toll and parking.

You acknowledge and understand that there are inherent risks associated with this activity (including risk of physical injury from accidents, collisions, falls, etc.). In consideration of permission to engage in this activity and to the fullest extent permitted by law, you hereby release and forever discharge the BLPA (Berkeley Lab Postdoc Association) and any BLPA board member, postdocs and volunteers, as well as any member of the BLPA Sports committee (together, the “BLPA Releasees”) from any and all claims (including any causes of action relating to personal injury, death or property damage) relating to the activity. You agree to expressly waive all rights conferred by Section 1542 of the California Civil Code which states: “A general release does not extend to claims which the creditor does not know or suspect to exist in his favor at the time of executing the release, which if known to him must have materially affected his settlement with the debtor.” IT IS YOUR INTENTION BY THIS AGREEMENT TO EXPRESSLY ASSUME THE RISK OF AND TO EXEMPT AND RELIEVE THE BLPA RELEASEES FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY FOR YOUR PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE OR DEATH FROM WHATEVER CAUSE OCCURRING WHILE ENGAGING IN THE ACTIVITIES DESCRIBED HEREIN.
