The Progressive Hagerstown Learning Circle (PHLiC) is an all-inclusive, secular cooperative community of homeschooling parents and children, of all ages. We aim to be a cohesive group of local homeschoolers, working together to create lots of diverse experiences for our kids and families.
**COVID-UPDATE: Considering the influx of schooling at home since the onset of pandemic life, we definitely want to be a place of support and information for new homeschoolers. However, this group is for those actively homeschooling, not those just seeking information. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to email us at
info@phlic.org.
Members agree to the following:
COMMUNICATION & PARTICIPATION
1. Provide current contact info and family details
Prior to approving membership, we required individuals to provide accurate information about their family, town of residence, and current contact info. This is to ensure our group is comprised of local, currently homeschooling families, and, to ensure the privacy of members, as much as possible.
2. Maintain Active Presence in Facebook Group (or email)
"Active" is defined as regular participation in discussion, through commenting, personal updates, photos, sharing resources and event coordination.
3. TRY really hard to host, at least, one activity activity per quarter. Don't panic! Hosting an activity can be as simple as planning a park day or hosting a playgroup. For those of you with more time and energy, feel free to let your creativity loose and plan more elaborate classes, workshops, field trips, mom's activities, sports events, etc. We understand there are circumstances that might hinder a member's ability to host an activity, and if this is the case, please try to remain active in all the ways you can, whether it be attending events or discussion. This helps support the group and those working to facilitate activities, discussions and social opportunities.
4. Attend, at least, one activity activity per quarter
Just show up! That's it. When you see someone post an activity that your kids may be interested in, or with kids around the same ages as yours, go support the host and join in!
RSVP ETIQUETTE
As a courtesy to event organizers, who have often put time and energy into planning, you agree to keep your availability status updated, once you RSVP for an activity, communicating any changes, as soon as possible. Also, consider that events are often listed in multiple locations, including the Facebook group event and an event spreadsheet. So, be sure to update both, and/or, contact the organizer to do so for you.
SUPERVISION
I understand that I, or a co-parent/guardian, must be present and responsible for supervising my children during all group activities in which my children participate, unless I have authorized an alternative PHLiC group member parent to act on my behalf and to be responsible for supervising my children. In the case of "drop-off" events (ie. workshop at member's house or older teens), please communicate effectively with the event organizer regarding contact info, drop-off and pick-up times.
CONNECTIONS & CONFLICT RESOLUTION
I agree to make an effort to facilitate introductions, provide a positive environment and encourage children to participate.
Further, when/if disagreements arise, I agree to help mediate conflicts between children, if needed, in a supportive way, with the intention to help the children involved gain a better understanding of each other and move towards a mutually agreed upon resolution.
LIABILITY & DAMAGES
I hereby consent to participation of my children in PHLiC (Progressive Hagerstown Learning Circle) activities and agree to assume all risks involved. I understand that PHLiC does not provide insurance relative to accidents or injuries as a result of program related activities. I understand that I am responsible for the health/medical care of my children in the event of an injury or accident during any group activity. I agree to indemnify and hold harmless PHLiC, parent members and venue hosts, from any liability of any acts done PHLiC or its members, that are reasonably related to the particular recreational or educational activity while participating in the PHLiC events and activities.
Further, I agree to be responsible for any damages to member property or venue host property caused by myself, my children or my guests.
