Crit Lab SPRING 2024 Application

Terms and Conditions:
Crit Labs are virtual zoom meetings. The Crit Lab may design In-Person, Virtual, and/or Hybrid (combination of in-person+online meetings) dependent on safety protocols, registration preferences, artist applications, and scheduling constraints.

Groups are curated based on the work of each artist for maximum artistic engagement, commonality, and community.  The Labs create an environment of trust and community in each cohort. We request that artists make every effort to be present for all sessions. There is no makeup for missed sessions.

Virtual Sessions include 10 meetings,  twice monthly for 5 months. We meet for 3 hours, with a 10-15 minute break and an additional 30 minute  (optional) social time before we start (optional). Sessions are held morning, afternoon, and evening, February through June. Each artist has one full 35-40 minute critique each month dedicated solely to their work. Zoom room opens 30 minutes before for social time.

This overview covers the pedagogical structure and technical info so everyone enters the Lab ready to dig in together. No exceptions. Dates of Orientations will be posted in December and notification emails will be sent.

Crit Lab Fellowships:
The Crit Lab offers up to two Fellowships based on merit and need. We continue to work on developing more Fellowships and other support. Fellowship applicants are required to fill out both the Lab application and the Fellowship application. For more information https://www.thecritlab.com/fellowship

Flexible, generous, interest free payment plans are available to all applicants.

To hold your space a $100 deposit is required. Due to the small number of artists in each group and the impact on group curation, deposit refunds are only available if cancellations made up to 14 days before a session begins, or The Crit Lab makes changes or groups are full. Once sessions begin, no refunds are possible.

Sessions are limited. Completing an application does not obligate or guarantee participation. Application preferences do not guarantee placement in a particular Lab.
Returning artists have priority registration.

Tell us about yourself!
A sense of your priorities and ideas helps build strong cohorts. Please write 80-150 informal words on what is important to you to explore in this Lab and how this might support your practice. This does not need to be in any way a polished essay or proposal; it is NOT a  test on writing.

All info is confidential. Email info@thecritlab.com with questions.

Answer in any way you choose. Some potential prompts:

1. What are your primary interests to focus on this Lab?
2. Are you interested in working with artists in a specific genre?
3. Do you have a focus on pushing your work forward?
4. Interests beyond the studio? Building community? Professional development?

If you are applying for a Fellowship, you do NOT need to write here- this is included in the Fellowship application. Write "Fellowship" below. The form will not allow you to submit if blank.
