The IOC-UNESCO endorsed Empowering Women Programme would like to invite you to register for the Stakeholder Consultative Forum, a platform to exchange knowledge and co-develop good practice to promote women’s empowerment under the Ocean Decade.

The Empowering Women for the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development Programme is primarily sponsored by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), Canada with support from The Nippon Foundation. The current phase of the Programme was launched in April 2019 and will complete on 31 March 2024. Please read more on https://empoweringwomen.wmu.se.

The Empowering Women Programme advances an inclusive model for the sustainable governance of ocean spaces and maritime activities. It duly takes into account the need to ensure effective gender equality and the empowerment of women at all levels, particularly in leadership roles, in order to ensure the sustainable management of the global ocean.

Based on the inclusive model, the Empowering Women Programme establishes a Stakeholder Consultative Forum to exchange knowledge and support its research work. Participants of the Forum will join the Programme team to raise awareness through individual and collective efforts, and advocate gender equality and the empowerment of women at all relevant international fora. In addition, the participants will play an active role in the development of an action plan for improving gender equality, and empowering women in ocean science and governance institutions under the Decade’s framework.

At this stage, the Forum is open to all institutions and individuals that are supporting the work of ocean-related inter-governmental organisations and non-governmental organisations. After registration, the team will contact you for further information.
