Diverse@LOSD: An Employee Resource Group
2020-2021

Affinity groups are valuable assets for schools and communities. They aim to create a supportive community of training, learning, advocacy and radical self-care for diverse staff, and educators. This academic year, LOSD invites teachers and staff who identify as members of a historically underrepresented minority group to participate in Diverse@LOSD monthly meetings.

What is Diverse@LOSD?
This is a voluntary empowerment and advocacy group composed of teachers and staff from under-represented  groups within the LOSD school community. We use the umbrella term “diverse” intentionally with the purpose of creating a broad space for all people who identify as members of historically marginalized groups. We will meet as a large group and divide into more specific affinity groups.

What is its mission?
Our mission is to provide an atmosphere of social networking among diverse teachers and staff at LOSD and foster a school climate that is inviting, unified, encouraging, and promotes upward mobility.

What can I expect from meetings?
A supportive and protected space for underrepresented groups to discuss issues affecting them, without the need to educate or explain to the privileged group.

Monthly meetings will have an agenda aimed to enhance communication and champion diversity, inclusion, opportunity and social justice.
