About this initiative:

Make-IT in Africa is on a mission to empower African digital innovation ecosystems to become 'future-ready,' resilient, and sustainable. In partnership with Value for Women, Make-IT in Africa is determined to address the gender gap persisting in Africa's innovation landscape. Together, we aim to foster gender equality and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through immersive training, tailored advisory, masterclasses, dedicated office hours, and online gender diagnostics for startups and intermediaries/entrepreneurial support organisations (ESOs)

The GameChangerX initiative, as part of the “Make-IT in Africa II” project,  aims to support digital innovation startups and ecosystem support organisations on their journey towards greater gender diversity in the African innovation ecosystem, through tailored, world-class gender lens training and advisory services designed to close gender gaps.

• Personalised Gender Self-Assessment Report
• Gender Roadmap for each participating organisation
• 1:1 Peer Learning and Expert Consultations
• Access to a Gender Lens masterclass on select topics
• The opportunity to be selected for an immersive, in-person Gender Smart Bootcamp in Nairobi, Kenya, on Nov 28-30, 2023, with travel subsidy for select participants
• The opportunity to receive world-class, tailored, Gender Smart Advisory Services over a 3-month period for up to 3 organisations

Eligibility

The initiative is open to all innovation enablers, accelerators and incubators operating in Africa in the digital and tech innovation sectors. To be eligible, organisations need to be based in a country in Africa. 

Applications will be evaluated by GIZ Make-IT in Africa and Value for Women following a set of established criteria. Organisations will be selected based on the organisation’s capacity, commitment, availability and willingness to be a learning partner and implement practices and solutions that will contribute to a more diverse, equitable and inclusive digital innovation ecosystem in Africa. 

The application process involves the following steps

• Shortlisting applicants: 21 October 2023
• Selection interviews for shortlisted applicants: 22-24 October 2023
• Selection of participants: 26 October 2023
• Gender-lens advisory services: 1 November 2023 - 28 February 2023
