Board members are expected to help with the courts before and after each game to assist with setup and tear down. Ideally, we need a minimum of 3-4 board members, attendance can be coordinated among the board

With that said, in some cases there might be a need for the full time commitment of 4~5 hours. If required, would you be willing to support this time commitment?

Presented below are the detailed descriptions of our Stonewall Sports Volleyball Board Members. These overviews capture the essence and structure of each role and the makeup of our board, reflecting our commitment to making our leagues a success.


All Board Members

  • Ensure compliance with the City of Pittsburgh's guidelines on trash disposal and cleanliness to maintain permits and avoid fines.

  • Participate in setting up and tearing down courts for both sand and indoor volleyball games. Coordination among board members is essential to ensure a minimum of 3-4 members are available for setup and teardown.

Commissioner

  • Supports and oversees all board members in their respective duties to ensure smooth operation of the league.

  • Responsible for obtaining necessary permits for both sand and indoor volleyball seasons.

  • Creates and manages the seasonal schedule for both sand and indoor volleyball, ensuring it aligns with league objectives and player availability.

  • Oversees the procurement of equipment, uniforms (t-shirts), and promotional items (swag) suitable for both sand and indoor volleyball formats.

  • Manages the registration process for both seasons, ensuring a streamlined and user-friendly experience for participants.

  • Coordinates the assignment of team shirt colors, balancing preferences and availability.

  • Establishes and updates the rules for both sand and indoor volleyball, considering the unique aspects of each format.

  • Ensures that all league activities, from matches to events, adhere to the standards and values of Stonewall Sports Pittsburgh’s Code of Conduct, with a focus on inclusivity, safety, and enjoyment for all members.

  • Actively participates in the setup and teardown of courts for both sand and indoor volleyball games, demonstrating leadership and commitment to the league’s operational needs.

Assistant Commissioner

  • Provide support to the Commissioner and assume their responsibilities in their absence.

  • Step in for absent board members as needed.

  • Responsible for overseeing the Divisional Systems of both Indoor and Sand Volleyball Leagues, this role ensures the consistent application and maintenance of our comprehensive Ratings Rubric standards. 

  • Collaboratively working alongside the Head Referee, the individual in this position plays a crucial role in upholding the integrity and balance of our league competitions.

  • Contribute to the setup and teardown of both sand and indoor volleyball courts.

Head Referee

  • Manage scorekeeping and enter scores into the ranking database post-match.

  • Post weekly rankings after games.

  • Oversee rules of play and make final decisions on challenges or rule queries in the absence of the Commissioner or Assistant Commissioner.

  • Organize pre-season meetings to discuss rules and refereeing guidelines.

  • Assist in the setup and teardown of courts for both sand and indoor volleyball.

Community Outreach (DE&I) Chairperson

  • Foster relationships with sponsors, community partners, and organize outreach events.

  • Coordinate with organizations for volunteer efforts and community health screens.

  • Explore possibilities for community food trucks on game days, subject to city permits.

  • Upholds and promotes the values of DE&I in our organization.

  • Participate in court setup and teardown for both sand and indoor volleyball.

Courts and Equipment Chairperson

  • Assess court conditions during inclement weather and advise on playability.

  • Manage equipment logistics for each game, including transportation and storage.

  • Evaluate and recommend equipment purchases.

  • Contribute to setup and teardown of both sand and indoor volleyball courts.

Membership Chairperson

  • Assist free agents in finding teams.

  • Plan recruitment activities in collaboration with the Marketing & Events and Community Outreach Chairpersons.

  • Curate music playlists for games.

  • Help with the setup and teardown of both sand and indoor volleyball courts.

Marketing & Events Chairperson

  • Handle league communications and marketing.

  • Organize events such as season kickoff, fundraisers, mixers, and social activities.

  • Update and communicate game schedules, including any changes or delays, to team captains.

  • Collaborate with Community Outreach & Membership Chairpersons.

  • Assist in court setup and teardown for both volleyball formats.

Support Chairperson

  • Follow a checklist for day-of coordination activities, ensuring essential items are available.

  • Provide backup support to other board members as needed.

  • Help in the setup and teardown of both sand and indoor volleyball courts
