Ethical Practices and Pitfalls of Arts Educators - Monday, April 24, 2023 (4:30 - 5:30 pm)

DATE AND TIME:  Monday, April 24, 2023 (4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.).

EVENT LOCATION:  A Zoom link will be provided prior to this virtual session

This session is a good reminder of the ethical practices and pitfalls of being an educator, and especially those that come from teaching in an Arts area. How do we protect ourselves and our students when:

  • We work with students individually?
  • We often use touch as a teaching tool?
  • Students surface issues through their artwork?
  • Emotions are inherent in the arts and art-making?
Our presenter is Debra Corhouse, staff attorney at Education Minnesota. From her experience, Ms. Corhouse will talk through topics such as regulating interactions with students, communication, and what to do if you learn about a potentially unethical situation. There will be an opportunity to ask questions, too.
