WELCOME TO OUR GROUP TEN JRL DEVELOPMENT REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM FOR U14 & U15 MALE TACKLE PLAYERS FOR 2023.
Following consultation with NRL and NSWRL representatives, the program has been designed to provide opportunities beyond club level to players. This development program is inclusive and allows players from all clubs to come along and learn some new skills.
The program that we run has been developed by, and runs in conjunction with, the Penrith Panthers Junior Development Team. In 2023, the Program we are running for these age groups will provide the following selection opportunities:
* For players turning 14 in 2023 - selection opportunity for Western Cubs Program
* For players turning 15 in 2023 - selection opportunity for Western Rams 2024 Under 16s Squad
Selections for both of these extended pathways programs will be made at the Western Cluster Carnival to be held in Bathurst on Saturday 23rd September 2023.
This registration is for:
Players playing tackle rugby league turning 14 (male only born in 2009) & 15 (male only born in 2008) years old in 2023.
Younger age players WILL NOT be considered for this program. They will have their opportunity when they reach the required age.
Players also playing under an 18 Month Exemption with their club teams are ineligible for Representative Selection.
PLAYERS MUST BE CURRENTLY REGISTERED AND AN ACTIVE PLAYER WITH A GROUP TEN JRL CLUB TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE. Group Ten JRL By Laws state the following:
16.1.(b) To be eligible to trial players must have played at least 3/4 of the previous seasons games with their club unless there are mitigating circumstances (ie., injury, new to town). It will be up to the Board of Management Committee to decide if there are mitigating circumstances that have stopped a player from fulfilling his/her commitment to their club.
STAGE ONE - TRIAL DAY
The Development Representative Selection Trials will be held on SUNDAY 30th JULY 2023 - trials will be held at King George Oval, Blayney, exact times to be determined in the week prior to trial day
Trial day will see players divided into as many teams as needed and a number of short version games played.
It is a Group Ten JRL requirement that players MUST attend the trial day to be eligible for representative selection.
If your player is unable to trial on this day due to a current injury, consideration by selectors will ONLY be made if appropriate medical documentation in relation to the injury is submitted by your HOME CLUB to grp10board@gmail.com with reasons outlining why this player should be considered for selection. This will only be considered by the Board, a medical certificate does not guarantee selection.
Following trial selection day, the final squad will be listed on the Group Ten JRL Facebook page. Players will be emailed and requested to either accept or decline their position by a determined date.
All decisions made regarding Group Ten JRL Representative Selection are final, feedback will not be provided for unsuccessful selection.
STAGE TWO – SQUAD TRAINING SESSIONS
All sessions for both age groups will be conducted at the same times at a central location each week.
These sessions will consist of a series of pre-planned drills designed by the Penrith Panthers Development Team and delivered by Group Ten JRL Board Staff where the players will work around over the course of each session. Drills will vary from week to week, and each drill station will be manned by coaching staff nominated from Group Ten clubs. This is a great opportunity for our Group Ten players to mix together, not only with players from other clubs but also coaching staff.
Players will be required to commit to training sessions and if they are unable to attend a session will be required to email the Representative Program Organisers on grp10board@gmail.com of their non attendance with a reason why. Failure to advise non attendance at these sessions, and attendance at these sessions will be taken into consideration when starting sides for the carnival are decided.
NEW for 2023 will see the program include a
mandatory referees course to be completed by all participants, this is designed to not only provide the opportunity to attain a referee accreditation but also to attain a deeper understanding of the rules of the game.
Stage Two Combined Training Session 1 – SUNDAY 13th AUGUST 2023 - JACK ARROW SPORTING COMPLEX - From 9am to 3pm (includes referee component)
Stage Two Combined Training Session 2 - SUNDAY 20th AUGUST 2023 - Venue TBA 9am to 12 noon
STAGE THREE – TEAM TRAINING SESSIONS
Following Stage Two Combined Sessions final teams will be announced. Once the final teams have been determined and advised, teams will then have a series of training sessions before attending the Development Cluster Carnival. Each team will have 3 training sessions.
All training sessions for all teams will be held at the same location, this is to allow the ease of travel for families who may have multiple children participating or families who car pool. The format allows families to know the dates and the commitment before accepting their position, allowing them to plan effectively.
Players will be required to commit to training sessions and if they are unable to attend a session will be required to email the Representative Program Organisers on grp10board@gmail.com of their non attendance and a reason why. Players and parents/carers please note that non attendance at training may impact their playing time at the carnival. If non attendance at training is ongoing, it may also jeopardise the players position in the team.
